Job Title: Hardware & Linux Support Engineer

Candidates will have 2+ years experience

Candidates will have relevant 3rd level qualification or alternative accreditation/experience

Hardware & Linux Support Engineer will have:

Responsibilities:

  • Performing 1st & 2nd line support activities
  • Troubleshooting performance issues with Hardware
  • Troubleshooting issues with the output of the software that is installed on the hardware
  • Taking ownership of customer trouble tickets and working them through to a conclusion
  • Deploying patches releases
  • Monitor, updates and manage customer tickets through webpaged ticketing system
  • Preparing Method of Procedures for change requests
  • Preparing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports
  • Working to the terms of Service Level Agreements
  • Implementing process improvements and tools to help automate repetitive tasks

Technical Skills/Experience Required:

  • Hardware Installation and configuration
  • Trouble-shooting system faults using server log files, messages etc
  • Installing & Trouble shooting Linux, Red Hat, Ubuntu, CEntOS Operating systems
  • Creating, managing, installing debian type packages
  • Configuring Software and Hardware RAID arrays
  • Trouble-shooting networking issues
  • Experience with Nagio or similar server monitoring tools
  • Experience with munin or similar server performance monitoring tools
  • Experiencing in performing SNMP/SMTP server integration into Monitoring Systems
  • Experience using Wireshark, Thsarks, tcpdump packet analysis tools
  • Knowledge of Telecommunication Architecture specifically IP components
  • Experience working with HP blades and SAN systems e.g. C7000 , P2000 MDS series or similar
  • Experience with script languages e.g. bash, perl, pyton etc
  • System backups and restore experience
  • Knowledge of firewalls, routers, switches and remote access servers
  • Experience installing and configuring IP monitoring devices such as Gigamon, VSS etc

General

  • Previous experience in 1st/2nd line support
  • Exposure to mobile telecommunications and knowledge of IP based technologies such as GPRS/GTP, LTE etc.
  • Excellent Analytical and Troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise trouble ticket and tasks
  • Customer facing experience and ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Good MS Word and Excel skills essential
  • Willingness to be part of on-call rota for out of hours coverage.
  • Willingness to travel if the need arises (less then 15% of time)
